Shin Min-ah’s psychological thriller ‘The Eyes’ to haunt Malaysian cinemas from July 23

KUALA LUMPUR, July 2 — The Korean remake of Spanish psychological horror thriller The Eyes is set to arrive in Malaysian cinemas on July 23.

Directed by Yeom Ji-ho, the film stars acclaimed Korean actress Shin Min-ah, best known for K-dramas Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha and No Gain No Love, alongside Kim Nam-hee and Kim Yeong-ah.

The Eyes is a remake of the Spanish film Julia’s Eyes, directed by Guillem Morales and produced by acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro.

The story follows a woman who gradually loses her sight while investigating the mysterious death of her twin sister, only to discover a growing darkness closing in around her.

The original film holds a 90 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 39 reviews, with an average score of 6.54 out of 10.

Critics described it as “smart, suspenseful, and visually distinctive”, praising its tense atmosphere and psychological depth.

The story has also been adapted four times in India, including the Hindi film Blurr (2022), Marathi film Adrushya (2021), Tamil film Unpaarvaiyil (2025) and Telugu film Divya Drushti (2025).

The Korean adaptation, which premiered in South Korea on June 24, has already generated strong interest among audiences.

According to Sports Chosun, The Eyes attracted about 232,950 cinemagoers between June 26 and 28, with total admissions surpassing 305,000 shortly after its release.

Audiences have praised the film’s suspense, direction and performances, with particular acclaim for Shin’s portrayal, as well as its tense atmosphere and shocking ending.

Produced by Studio Dream Capture and Time Heist, The Eyes will be distributed in Malaysia by GSC Cinemas.
