The Kuala Terengganu sessions court denied bail at the request of the prosecution.
PETALING JAYA: A hardware store worker pleaded not guilty in the Kuala Terengganu sessions court today to raping and sexually assaulting his younger sister.
Sinar Harian reported that the charges against the 25-year-old were read out separately before judge Zul Zakiqudin Zulkifli.
In the first charge, the man was accused of raping his 16-year-old sister in Kampung Titian Baru, Terengganu, sometime in January.
The charge was framed under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code, which provides for eight to 30 years’ imprisonment and at least 10 strokes of the rotan.
In the second charge, the man was accused of sexually assaulting his sister at 9pm on June 21.
The court denied bail at the request of the prosecution, which said this was necessary to protect the victim from harassment, and set Aug 2 for case mention.
The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Asymawi Ghazali, while the accused was represented by a lawyer from the National Legal Aid Foundation.
