Microsoft lets Windows 10 users have extended security updates till October 2027

MANILA, Philippines – Consumers using Microsoft’s Windows 10 version 22H2 will be pleased to know the company has pushed back the date when it would end its Extended Security Updates (ESU) program for Windows 10 devices.

Windows 10 ESU will now continue until October 12, 2027, instead of a previously stated October 2026 deadline for the end of extended security updates.

“Windows 10 support has ended. You can enroll in ESU any time until the program ends on October 12, 2027. If you’re already enrolled, your coverage will automatically continue through that date — no action needed,” the page for the announcement read.

This means all consumers on Windows 10 22H2 can continue to use Windows 10 with necessary security updates incoming till the new end date. If you are already enrolled in the ESU program, you’ll get the extra year of updates without any new prompting.

While no reason has been given for this quiet update to the program, it stands to reason the price spikes for computer parts to upgrade to a Windows 11 machine would make it very cost-prohibitive to upgrade to a new device. By extending the program, they can maintain the Windows userbase while keeping them relatively protected.
