VIVANT RENEWABLE ENERGY Corp. (VREC), a subsidiary of Vivant Energy Corp., has acquired a 100% stake in Samar Philippines Renewable Corp., the developer of a large-scale wind farm project in Northern Samar.
In a statement on Wednesday, Vivant Energy said VREC had taken full control of Samar Philippines Renewable Corp. from Envision Energy Philippines Corp.
The wind project spans the municipalities of Lavezares, Allen, Victoria, and Rosario in Northern Samar and is targeted for completion and grid integration by the end of 2028.
Once operational, the wind farm is expected to generate 695 gigawatt-hours of clean energy annually, enough to power more than 190,000 households. The project is also projected to offset about 487,000 metric tons of carbon emissions each year.
“The acquisition marks another significant step in Vivant’s renewable energy growth as it moves closer to its 30 by 30 goal of increasing renewable energy capacity,” the company said.
Vivant Energy said 36% of the project’s capacity was awarded under the fourth Green Energy Auction Program, while the remaining capacity will be covered by an offtake agreement with a retail electricity supplier.
The company said Envision, the project’s original developer, provided advanced turbine technology, engineering expertise, and development support.
“Envision will continue to work closely with Vivant Energy to advance the project towards construction and commercial operation, contributing to the successful delivery of high-quality renewable energy infrastructure in the Philippines,” the company said.
Vivant Energy is the power generation arm of Vivant Corp., which has investments in power generation and distribution, retail electricity supply, bulk water supply, wastewater treatment, and water distribution. — Sheldeen Joy Talavera
