Taiwan’s leading independent music honors, the Golden Indie Music Awards (GIMA), will return for its 17th edition on October 31, 2026, at the Taipei Music Center. Applications for all award categories open from 1 June to 1 July, including the Best Asian Creative Artist Award, a category dedicated to music creators across Asia and reflects GIMA’s ongoing commitment to strengthening connections within the region’s independent music scene.

Organized by Taiwan’s Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development under the Ministry of Culture, the Golden Indie Music Awards has, over the past 17 years, evolved into one of Asia’s few government-supported music awards centered on independent artistry, creative freedom, and genre innovation. Beyond documenting the growth of Taiwan’s independent music scene, GIMA has continued to expand its international reach, becoming an important platform connecting music creators and industry professionals across Asia.

Outdoors, Food, Sweets

Since launching the “Best Asian Creative Artist Award” category in 2020, GIMA has broadened its perspective to encompass emerging creative talent and evolving music trends throughout Asia. Past nominees and winners span a wide range of genres, from alternative rock and experimental pop to hip-hop and boundary-pushing cross-genre projects, including South Korean breakout band Silica Gel, Indonesian alternative rock powerhouse .Feast, Japan’s Nara-born rock outfit Age Factory, Japanese pop phenomenon ATARASHII GAKKO!, and Indonesian rapper Rich Brian, gradually solidifying the awards’ position as a key platform for creative music exchange in Asia.

Beyond the awards themselves, GIMA has increasingly attracted international attention through its large-scale productions and exclusive curated cross-border performances, evolving into an important platform for exchange among Asian musicians. Highlights from the 2025 ceremony included a special Thailand–Taiwan collaborative performance by Thai rapper AUTTA and Taiwanese indie band The Chairs, while South Korean band Silica Gel appeared as both performers and presenters, marking one of the event’s standout cross-cultural moments. Following the recent announcement of Silica Gel’s Asia tour, the group’s appearance at GIMA has once again drawn attention among fans and music circles.

Filipino music creators with albums and EPs released between July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026 are eligible to apply for GIMA 2026’s Best Asian Creative Artist Award.

Applications for the 2026 Best Asian Creative Artist Award will be accepted online from June 1 through July 1, 2026. Eligible applicants include all Asian music creators and groups of non-Taiwanese nationality. Full submission guidelines and award information are available on the official submission portal.
